Application to the Engineering Scholars Program is by invitation only, which you would receive only AFTER being accepted by the University of Notre Dame as an admitted student. Decisions on invitations to apply and admission to ESP are based on the following:
Acceptance is limited to 20 first-year students each year.
Rolling admissions are made winter through the spring for the subsequent academic year.
Students who maintain a GPA consistent with eventual graduation with at least cum laude distinction may be nominated as early as the spring semester of the sophomore year and as late as spring of the junior year for admission into EHP. This nomination must be supported by the student's department and particularly, his/her intended thesis advisor(s).
Requirements for admission to EHP
Students may apply for admission to EHP from the beginning of the second semester of the sophomore year through the end of the second semester of the junior year.
Minimum GPA will be that which earned cum laude honors in the most recent graduating class.
Student must present at least one recommendation for his/her admission from a faculty member expressing (in the recommendation document) willingness to supervise thesis research by applicant.
Departments may supplement the College’s conditions for membership in EHP with additional requirements for their students.
All admittees into EHP must be approved by the Director of EHP, the College of Engineering Dean for Academic Affairs, and the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the student’s department.
Dismissal from EHP
Cumulative GPA’s falling below level specified above for two consecutive semesters.
Failure to maintain satisfactory progress toward the senior thesis at any time during membership, in the judgment of student's thesis advisor.
Conduct which, in the judgment of the Dean for Academic Affairs and EHP Director, disgraces EHP and/or the College.
