NDTL Director Named Member of Michiana 40 Under 40 Class of 2017

Nina Welding • DATE: April 12, 2017

Notre Dame Turbomachinery Laboratory (NDTL) Director Joshua D. Cameron, who also serves as assistant research professor in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University, has been named a member of the Michiana Forty Under 40 Class of 2017 by the South Bend Regional Chamber of Commerce. According to the regional chamber’s web site, “Michiana Forty under 40 recognizes young regional business and professional leaders who have achieved success before the age of 40. This recognition shines the spotlight on some of the area's most talented and dedicated young executives, professionals, and leaders who demonstrate career and community engagement.” Cameron and the other honorees will be recognized at a luncheon and profiled in the South Bend Tribune later this spring.

As director of NDTL, Cameron has managed the design and construction of a $36M world-class gas turbine component testing and research facility in downtown South Bend, Ind., where he currently oversees the operation of four turbomachinery test cells, manages annual research expenditures, and develops the long-term vision and plan for NDTL’s growth and education mission. He also manages three testing facilities on the Notre Dame campus and serves on doctoral committees for the department while co-directing Ph.D. candidates
 and undergraduate research students.

His commitment to education extends to the local community. NDTL has hosted presentations, visits, and lab tours for middle school and high school aged students. This summer, NDTL will collaborate with and participate in STARBASE Indiana South Bend STEAM Summer Camps for 5th-8th graders.

“I would like to thank each member of the NDTL team,” said Cameron. “This award is not a recognition of me but of the impact that NDTL is having on the community, an impact that is realized every day through the hard work and dedication of the lab’s highly skilled staff.”
