ESTEEM Student Working with AD&T Recognized as Rising Star in Africa

Dina Imbabazi, a student in the University of Notre Dame’s Engineering, Science, and Technology Entrepreneurship Excellence Masters program (ESTEEM), has been invited to be an official associate of the Harambe Entrepreneur Alliance (HEA), a leading group that supports entrepreneurial engagement opportunities for the next generation of African professionals. The organization brings together young African entrepreneurs, professionals, and students attending leading universities in Africa, North America, Europe, and Asia who have a commitment and a willingness to use their potentials for the economic, social, and political development of Africa.
Less than 10% of all applicants were invited to join HEA and Notre Dame now joins the ranks of other prestigious universities--such as Harvard, Stanford, Oxford and the Sorbonne--in hosting HEA-supported students.
Imbabazi is working with Lei Liu, a research assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, and Kirk Reinbold, managing director of the Advanced Diagnostics and Therapeutics (AD&T) initiative, to commercialize some of the terahertz (THz) imaging and spectroscopy technologies being developed in Liu’s AD&T-supported lab. Specifically, they are looking at ways to apply THz to improve pharmaceutical processes. Imbabazi's vision is to bring technologies like these back home to her native Rwanda.
