Summary of Activities/Interests

Advisors: Dr. Paul McGinn & Dr. Alex Mukasyan

Title of Dissertation: Combustion Joining of Dissimilar and Refractory Materials

My research interests are primarily related to solid-state high temperature combustion reactions in heterogeneous systems.  Research projects include high-temperature rapid reactive joining of similar (carbon/carbon composites) and dissimilar (carbide to metal-alloy) materials, combustion synthesis of SiC/SiO2 multifunctional anti-oxidation protection in carbon/carbon composites, tailoring the powder reactivity by mechanical activation approaches (high-energy ball milling) and synthesis of nanopowder (i.e., carbides, intermetallics, etc) by SHS method, and kinetics of high-temperature reactions in heterogeneous systems (i.e., Ni+Al, Ti+Fe2O3).
