Program Description

This 6-week program allows Notre Dame engineers to research, collaborate, and solve real-life industry problems alongside their Chinese peers and present solutions to industry partners at the end of the program.

This program is open to rising junior and senior engineering students.

The Hong Kong summer program is led by Notre Dame Professor Bill Goodwine.

Course

All students enroll (7 credits) in the following summer engineering course.

KSGA 2400: Global Professional Experience, 1 credit
AME 40498: International Collaborative Industrial Project. 6 credits

Dates

Tentative: May 20 – July 12, 2026

Some students extend their stay and engage in a summer-long research experience.

Housing

Students live in a combination of dorms and apartments.

Program Fee

Costs for the 2026 Summer Study Abroad Programs are pending. The program fee for 2025 Hong Kong was $9,200, plus a $200 University Study Abroad Administration Fee.

The program fee includes the cost of a number of Notre Dame engineering credits (varies by each student); accommodations; some group meals; airport transportation; GeoBlue international health insurance; all program academic outings and field trips; and program support from Notre Dame faculty.

It does not include airfare and meals; passport/visa fees; international cell phone/plan; or personal spending money.

All students are considered for need-based engineering scholarships to help underwrite program costs.

Applications will be accepted between October 1 – November 3, 2025.

Program assignments and waitlist notifications occur before Christmas break.
