Chris Newman - Oxford Hockey "Man of the Match"

Chris Newman at Oxford University

Chris Newman, junior ND EE major, is currently studying at the University of Oxford and is a member of the University's Ice Hockey Club.  The team consists of players from the UK, Canada, USA, continental Europe and even Africa.  They compete in the BUIHA (British University Ice Hockey Association).  Additionally, the team plays a series of exhibition matches in early January, usually in France, Germany, or Eastern Europe.

Newman on iceThe Oxford Univeristy Ice Hockey Club was established in 1885 and is the second oldest ice hockey club in the world after McGill University.  Like all Oxford Varsity teams, their chief rival is Cambridge University.  Just recently, Cambridge kicked off the season on the road with a 10-4 win over Cambridge in a varsity match preview at the Planet Ice Rink in Peterborough.

Check out the homepage of their website at http://ouihc.com/men/  You can subscribe to the team's newsletter.  There's also a write-up there about Chris' Cambridge game that mentions him as the "man of the match" which is their version of the "player of the game".

Congratulations, Chris!
