Julia Qian receives NACADA Excellence in Advising Award

Julia Qian, associate advising professor and director of advising strategy, assessment, and policy in the Notre Dame College of Engineering, has been awarded the 2025 Region 5 Award: Excellence in Advising – Primary Role Advisor Certificate of Merit by the Global Community for Academic Advising (NACADA).

This award recognizes an individual who provides outstanding academic advising support to students.

With more than a decade in higher education, Julia is a leader in holistic and inclusive advising, transforming advising policies and structures to provide equitable and tailored student support. Her professional journey reflects her commitment to cultural competence, student success, and institutional improvement, demonstrated through initiatives such as reconfiguring advising teams, integrating innovative technologies, and leading assessment data-driven improvements.

She holds an M.Ed. from the University of Pittsburgh, a Certificate in Organizational Leadership from Harvard Business School, and is pursuing an Ed.D. in Catholic Higher Education at Boston College. She has contributed to NACADA through presentations, reviews, and service. As a senior personnel on a $600,000 NSF project, she advances AI-powered privacy literacy education and ethical engineering practices.
