Notre Dame Engineering’s Eric Jumper and Maria Holland honored among 2026 University faculty award recipients

On Tuesday, May 12, John T. McGreevy, the Charles and Jill Fischer Provost at the University of Notre Dame, announced the winners of the 2026 University faculty awards.

“This year’s faculty award recipients represent the very best of Notre Dame through their outstanding achievements in teaching, scholarship, and service,” McGreevy said. “Their work strengthens our academic community and furthers the University’s mission as a leading global Catholic research institution.”

The 2026 University faculty award winners are:

  • Rev. Edmund P. Joyce, C.S.C., Awards for Excellence in Teaching: 
    • Badih Assaf (Department of Physics and Astronomy), 
    • Juan Del Valle (Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry), and 
    • Roya Ghiaseddin (Department of Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics)
  • Research Achievement Award: 
    • Peter Garnavich (Department of Physics and Astronomy), 
    • Eric Jumper (Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering), and 
    • Jennifer Tank (Department of Biological Sciences)
  • President’s Award: 
    • Ernest Davis Morrell (Departments of English and Africana Studies)
  • Hesburgh Legacy Award: 
    • Gerard F. Powers (Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies)
  • Dockweiler Awards for Excellence in Advising: 
    • Maria Holland (Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering), 
    • Karen Richman (Institute for Latino Studies), and 
    • Gina V. Shropshire (Mendoza College of Business)
  • Faculty Award: 
    • Christopher Kolda (Department of Physics and Astronomy)
  • Rev. Paul J. Foik, C.S.C., Award: 
    • Mark Robison (Hesburgh Libraries)
  • Thomas P. Madden Award: 
    • Giuseppe Mazzone (School of Architecture)
