Summary of Activities/Interests

Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) from Mesoscale (Hurricanes) to Global Scale (Climate).

High Performance Computing (HPC) - NWP of any significance requires HPC resources.

Ensemble Modeling - Ensembles represent a family of solutions of numerical models, generated by the perturbation of initial conditions.

Data Assimilation (DA) - modern NWP involves complex assimilation of asynoptic observations.  DA schemes include: variational techniques (3D- and 4D-VAR), Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF), and Gridpoint Statistical Interpolation (GSI).
