Rachel Bonek: Driven by Dual-DegrEE

NDEE senior Rachel Bonek represents an exclusive sector of NDEE majors, those earning a dual-degree. Rachel received her bachelor's degree in physics and applied mathematics from neighboring Saint Mary’s College. She then went on to study one more year here at the University of Notre Dame and this May, will also receive a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from NDEE. Researching Abroad for Applications to be used in Quantum Computing

NDEE graduate student, Thomas Zirkle traveled to France to conduct cryogenic research and use an active-interferometry technique to take cryogenic measurements, which until now, has not been used on single electron devices. The results may lead to applications used in quantum computing.

The NSF announced the recipients of the 2016 Graduate Research Fellowship Program, with 24 current Notre Dame students winning the prestigious award and another 17 earning honorable mention.

A total of 24 current students, 19 graduate students and five undergraduates, were selected as winners of the 2016 Graduate Research Fellowship Program, with another 17 earning honorable mention. This doubles the number of University honorees from 2015.
