Undergraduate Research

From working in the Notre Dame Nanofabrication Facility to the Energy Center, undergraduates in the College of Engineering have the opportunity to work side by side with internationally known faculty and graduate students. You are part of the team. This hands-on experience is important for many reasons. It helps you identify your areas of interest and it gives you firsthand experience that will prove invaluable as you continue your career at Notre Dame and beyond.

Your department adviser, even your individual professors, can answer many of your questions about undergraduate research, as well as what opportunities are open for you in your area of interest.

However, the value of your degree is not only in the things you learn but in learning “how to learn” … which is part of any research project. Technology will continue to advance, and your ability to learn and adapt to meet the needs of society will be critical for your success as an engineer.
