College of Engineering Study Abroad Policies

Study Abroad

Being able to study abroad is an important part of the Notre Dame experience. The College of Engineering is committed to creating and supporting a diverse and flexible set of options for students to study abroad. These options include both summer and full-semester experiences.

Studying abroad should enhance the student’s Notre Dame experience. Students with good academic standing will benefit from learning abroad while progressing in their majors. The College is committed to developing study abroad options and policies that ensure students have the best possible experience while enriching their overall Notre Dame Engineering education.

Semester Program

To be eligible to apply for a semester study abroad experience, students must be in good academic standing and have an overall GPA of 2.750 (on a 4.000 scale). Students are expected to remain in good academic standing during the term prior to their study abroad experience.

In rare cases, a student may be placed on probation the semester immediately prior to the abroad semester. In such a case, the College will immediately notify Notre Dame Global that the College’s approval to study abroad has been rescinded. In order to remain eligible for the abroad semester, the student must apply for an exemption from the department of their major and the Dean’s Office. Students on academic suspension may not participate in a study abroad program.
