X Grade

Definition

The University does not assign grades of “incomplete” to undergraduate students. An “X” grade is assigned rarely with the approval of Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Academic Affairs if extenuating circumstances make it impossible for students to complete their work by the end of the term. X grades are meant to accommodate an acute, sudden, unforeseen family or medical emergency or service to the University that prevents a student from completing the last assignment(s) of a semester. Please see detailed information in the Undergraduate Academic Code.

Eligibility

Students should meet with their advisor or DUS as soon as they become aware of extenuating circumstances.

Final Grade

The Dean’s office will normally assign a deadline for completing all work. Students must complete their work prior to that deadline or the “X” will be changed to a grade of “F.” If the work is completed within the designated time, the “X” grade will be changed to a letter grade by the instructor.
