This time, instead of our usual Month in Photos, we’re sharing a special Summer in Photos collection. Over the summer, our College photographer was out and about capturing the energy, creativity, and everyday moments across Notre Dame Engineering.
This photo collection from Summer 2025 highlights the camps where high-school students explored engineering, the hands-on undergraduate research experiences, and the welcome events for transfer and graduate students. Students who participated in the College’s many study abroad programs have also contributed photos, capturing their experiences in such places as Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Germany.
Engineering Innovation Hub – Robotics & STEM Summer Camps

During the summer, the Engineering Innovation Hub hosts two free, week-long Engineering Exploration High School Summer Camps for local students: STEM Camp and Robotics Camp. Participants were immersed in hands-on projects, building bridges, racing robotic cars, and designing pneumatic structures and air cannons.
Intro to Engineering Program – IEP

The two-week Introduction to Engineering Program (IEP) gave rising high school seniors an inside look at engineering disciplines and careers. Each summer, students take part in hands-on projects, field trips, and introductions to design and computer programming while experiencing a taste of college life at Notre Dame.
Electrical Engineering – Pre-College Summer Camp – Slot Car Race

In Engineering and Inventing the Future: Making Things Smarter for a Better World Summer Scholars, a pre-college program hosted by Notre Dame’s Department of Electrical Engineering, high school students explored topics such as alternative energy, quantum computing, photonics, signal processing, communications, and embedded systems. Each summer, the program pairs lectures with hands-on projects and culminates in the much-anticipated timed slot car race.
Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium – 3MT

The Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium brought REU students from across campus together to share the results of their summer work. Held in Jordan Hall of Science, the event featured a poster session and the Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition, with 138 student presenters from 20 summer programs and 5 research labs. Students from E-SURE, SMASH, and AWARE joined peers from other REU programs to present research in fields ranging from robotics and wireless systems to sustainability and healthcare.
Electrical Engineering Faculty Group Photo

Faculty from the Department of Electrical Engineering gathered outside Fitzpatrick Hall of Engineering for their annual group photo. It was a chance to come together, reconnect, and kick off another academic year.
Transfer Student Welcome Ice Breaker

The College of Engineering, in collaboration with the Engineering Leadership Council, hosted an ice breaker for transfer students welcoming them to the College for the fall 2025 academic year. The admitted fall 2025 transfer students were able to meet members of the ELC along with faculty and staff, and enjoy good food while socializing with their peers.
Graduate Student Welcome Lunch

The College of Engineering hosted a welcome lunch to celebrate all incoming graduate students for fall 2025. The event introduced students to the many ways they can get involved at Notre Dame—through opportunities at the department, College, and University levels.
They also learned about a variety of free events the College organizes for first-year engineering graduate students throughout the year, including athletic, cultural, and dining experiences. This kickoff gathering set the stage for an exciting year of engagement, learning, and community-building within the College of Engineering.

Engineering Study Abroad

This summer, Notre Dame Engineering students studied abroad through programs in London, Dublin, Rome, Alcoy, Berlin, Hong Kong, and Japan. They tackled subjects from engineering feats, data science, and biomedical innovation to ethics, sustainability, plant operations, and industry partnerships. Outside of class, students explored historic landmarks, built connections with peers and faculty, and experienced the culture and daily life of some of the world’s most dynamic cities.

Welcome Weekend

During Welcome Weekend, first-year engineering students had the opportunity to dive into campus life and begin building connections within the college. They attended their first lecture, met faculty and college leadership, and explored the wide range of student organizations that they could join and engineering resources available to them. From professional groups like the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the National Society of Black Engineers to project-based design teams and leadership opportunities, students got an early look at the communities that will shape their Notre Dame experience both inside and outside the classroom.
